| Barbara was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1968. In 1999, she earned a B.S. degree from Nova Southeastern University, majoring in education. In 2002, she received her J.D. degree from the St. Thomas University Law School and subsequently received her LL.M. degree in taxation from the University of Miami in 2004.
Before joining the firm, Barbara was an associate at the Miami office of a large national law firm based in Pittsburgh, where she practiced in the areas of tax, probate, estate planning, executive compensation and benefits. Prior to that, she was an associate at a prominent Miami-based international law firm.
Barbara is a member of the Dade County and Cuban American Bar Associations, as well as the Tax and Real Property, Probate & Trust Sections and the Young Lawyers Divisions of The Florida and American Bar Associations. She serves on various committees for the Dade County Bar, the Florida Bar and the American Bar Association. In 2005, she was appointed to the Education and Communications Committee for the Profit Sharing Council of America (PSCA). In 2006, she was elected to the Gulf Coast Area Tax Exempt / Government Entities Council.
Barbara is very involved in our local community through organizations such as Put Something Back, Junior Achievement and The Education Fund. Barbara has been an occasional speaker at seminars on topics including tax-exempt organizations and planning for non-traditional couples and families. In addition, she co-authored an article, “Trusts for Pets,” published in the December 2005 issue of the Florida Bar Journal.
Barbara focuses her practice on Domestic and International Tax, Estates and Trusts, Probate, Non-Traditional Couples and Family Groups, Tax Exempt Organizations, and Employee Benefits. She is admitted to practice in Florida and before the U.S. Tax Court. She is fluent in Spanish. |
